Introduction to FPS’s Prayer Strategies Discovery Bible Studies Set:
Prayer—or engagement with God—is integral to every aspect of the lives of the team members and the corporate team, as well as to the strategy and approach they use. Within this docu-ment, you will find the following: a definition and explanation to the Prayer strategy, a set of questions to help you diagnosis the status of your team’s use of this strategy, a Discovery Bible Story Set to help you understand Scripture’s view on this strategy, and links for further re-sources related to this Prayer strategy. We recommend completing the team’s diagnostic first then adapt the Discovery Story Set to meet your team’s needs. Feel free to use the typical DBS questions, however, in addition we’ve tried to suggest you ask these much deeper questions to elicit specifics regarding this strategy. The Fellowship of Prayer Strategists have a set of nine-teen di ff erent prayer strategies. These are not intended to be the complete picture of this strat-egy but a glimpse at the use for this strategy. You can find more strategies at www.prayer–strategists.net. We hope these tools will prove helpful in considering ways you and your team can increase your capacity for extraordinary prayer for the sake of the King and His Kingdom.
Prayer Walking Definition: Moving prayer out of the church/home and into the community with praise march-es, prayer expeditions, prayer journeys, and prayerwalking, praying onsite with insight, bearing the Presence of Christ among the communities we bear on our hearts before His Throne.
Explanation: As believers, we carry the presence of the Holy Spirit much as the ark of the covenant carried God’s Presence in the Old Testament. As the idol Dagon fell down before the ark of God, even so spiritual darkness yields to His presence in us. As we step into some of the darkest corners of the world, we invite God’s intervention among peoples not yet touched by His Light. We bring worship where He is not yet worshiped. We see through His eyes and allow His heart of compassion to flow through us to those around. We receive fresh revelation about the spiritual underpinnings of reality and why darkness lingers where it does in order to address and remove the barriers to the gospel. We waft the fragrance of Christ and become like show-case windows displaying His goodness and grace to a desperate and dying world. We en-counter the people of peace God whose hearts God has prepared to receive salvation and bridge the good news into their world.
Diagnostic Questions for You & Your Team:
1. Are you regularly praying onsite in teams of two or more among the people of your fo-cus? 2. Are you recording your impressions as you pray and debriefing together with the wider team?

3. Do you host prayer walking teams and/or onsite worship teams to undergird your ef-forts? 4. Do you debrief after they conclude their assignments and incorporate their insights into your strategies?
Discovery Bible Story Set: 1. “Walk Through the Length and Breadth of It” – Genesis 13:14-18 A. Pray as a group before beginning that God would speak to us and open our hearts to hear Him. B. Read the entire passage aloud at least 2 times or listen to an audio version twice through. If your group uses storying, present the scripture in this way. Then, have the group practice re-telling the story together. C. Discussion questions: • What was God’s assignment to Abram upon promising him this particular land? • Why does God instruct Abram to do that? D. Take a few minutes to quietly listen to God. What is He instructing you to do from what you’re hearing? Share with each other what you’re sensing. Are some of His instruc-tions quite di ff erent than you might have imagined? How? E. Here is another example where walking through the land was connected to God’s promises.
2. “Every Place You Put Your Foot” – Joshua 1:1-6 A. Pray before beginning that God would speak to us and open our hearts to hear Him. B. Read the entire passage completely through. C. Discussion questions: • What was wrapped up in God’s promise of land? What instructions was Joshua to fol-low? • What qualities were needed to fulfill God’s instructions? D. Take a few minutes to quietly listen to God. What is He instructing you to do from what you’re hearing? Share with each other what you’re sensing. Followers of Jesus carry His presence within; watch what happens when the presence of God confronts idols.
3. “Idols Have to Fall” – 1 Samuel 5:1-7 A. Pray before beginning that God would speak to us and open our hearts to hear Him. B. Read the entire passage completely through. C. Discussion questions: • When the ark was brought in proximity to pagan idols, what happened? • How would that compare to a follower of Jesus prayerwalking in their community?

God instructed Moses to send a team to spy out the land of promise before they took posses-sion of it.
4. “Go Up and See” – Numbers 13:1-25 A. Pray before beginning that God would speak to us and open our hearts to hear Him. B. Read the entire passage completely through. C. Discussion questions: • What things were the spies to look at/for? • Reading further in this story, we realize that, although they all saw the same things, some of the spies saw the land through eyes of faith and others saw through eyes of fear. Reflect on that together. D. Take a few minutes to quietly listen to God. What is He instructing you to do from what you’re hearing? Share with each other what you’re sensing. Engaging in battle against their enemies, Israel marched out.
5. “Praisers Lead the Way” – 2 Chronicles 20:1-30 A. Pray before beginning that God would speak to us and open our hearts to hear Him. B. Read the entire passage completely through. C. Discussion questions: • When Israel went out, who led the way? Any thoughts on why? • What purposes might God have in directing this? How would that compare to your sit-uation? D. Jesus followed a similar pattern in His own ministry.
6. “Everywhere He Was About to Come” – Luke 10:1-4 A. Pray before beginning that God would speak to us and open our hearts to hear Him. B. Read the entire passage completely through. C. Discussion questions: • Where did Jesus send His disciples as He sent them two by two? • How did His disciples know where to go? How do we know where He’s sending us?

Believers are called to prophetically call forth God’s Kingdom on earth like John the Baptist did as a forerunner.
7. “For the Mouth of the Lord Has Spoken It” – Isaiah 40:1-5 A. Pray before beginning that God would speak to us and open our hearts to hear Him. B. Read the entire passage completely through. C. Discussion questions: • What were God’s instructions? • What were the proclamations he was to make? D. Take a few minutes to quietly listen to God. God helps us to really see the communities to which God has called us and often reveals keys to reaching them with the Gospel.
